You can substitute Abyss with either Midnight Ice (currently 7g) or Black, whichever is cheaper, but for best results Abyss is the way to go on Heavy and Medium armor. If price of change would be 5-10 materials needed for that weight class depending on what piece you are changing (elonian leather, deldrimor steel, damask) + 50 ectos + insignia + more expensive version of that you buy with spirit shards (costing maybe 100 or so) then it might be possible.
